New state record fish set by 3-1/2 year old fisherman

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Pond Near Home

Three and a half year old Earl Jenkins IV from Thurmont may well be the youngest fishermen to ever set a Maryland state record. Earl likes nothing better than to go fishing with his dad at a farm pond near their home. At his young age, Earl is a pretty accomplished fisherman who caught his first smallmouth bass last year while fishing with his dad. Earl cast a small chartreuse grub into a favorite pond near his house when the 1-1/2 lb rock bass hit and Earl managed to bring it in all by himself. Earl has learned everything he knows from fishing with his dad and used that knowledge to set the new state record. Here’s the kicker; his dad held the previous state record rock bass at 1lb, 4.1 oz; caught at the same farm pond last year, like father like son. The rock bass is alive at the Bass Pro Shop in Arundel Mills and will soon be on display.
