Kayak Fishing the Potomac River/Seneca Creek

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Potomac River/Seneca Creek

This past Sunday, July 24, 2011 my friend Lapp and I took our new fishing kayaks out for their first true run. We put in on Seneca Creek at Rileys Lock and paddled out to the Potomac. We fished the shoreline of the Potomac for a little bit and didnt get much action Lapp caught a decent sized catfish.

We then fished the mouth of the creek. We each caught a smallmouth Lapps was a good 2lbs.

Next we paddled up creek. The water clarity was excellent, and you could see the bottom at most parts. As we paddled up stream we could see that there a ton of fish in the creek. We paddled until the water depth reached about 2 ft. deep. We then started to float back down the creek and fish. We caught 10 fish in total on the day 7 of which were in the creek. We caught a few smallmouths, one rock bass, and a few largemouths 2 of which were the highlights of the day.

Great day of fishing. I highly recommend fishing from a kayak.
