Reservoir Fishing Question During Summer Heat

Type:
Region:
Location: Liberty Reservoir

I was wondering what is going on at Liberty & Loch raven Reservoir I went 2 weeks ago to Liberty and the water was beautiful, I fished for 8hrs and got no hits. I went this Tuesday 7/26/11 to Loch raven and got on the water around 6am until 3pm and not even one hit. I used trick worms, crank lures and swim baits, can someone tell me what is going on? Could it be that the weather is way too hot? When I first got on the water at Loch raven the fish were jumping all around me but would not bite, I even tried the famous banjo minnow and no bites. Any suggestions? Thanks.

DNR Response by Biologist Mark Staley: Today will be the 12th day in a row with maximum temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Central MD. It can be really challenging to catch fish in these conditions. We have no indication that there is any problem with the fish populations in Loch Raven or Liberty Reservoir. I think you should concentrate your fishing effort at dawn or dusk, try smaller lures, fish the deep edges of the weedlines in Loch Raven, and the fallen trees and rocky points at Liberty.
