On August 6th we fished the channel edge in the vicinity of Mattawoman Creek. We had some fresh cut bait and it did not take long for the big blue cats to find it. Our first hit took the rod into the water and broke us off, drag set too tightThe second fish took a large bait on 8oz of lead and was boated in about 10 minutes. This fish was 32 inches by 21 inches. The next fish took the bait, circle hook set and when I picked up the rod I accidently free spooled a Penn 320 into a very large back lash. I was going to try and hand line it in but I would have lost all my fingers. Sooooo, I gave the fish some line, cut it and quickly tied a blood knot onto one of my bass fishing rods, reeled up the slack and he was still there. About 20 minutes later I landed the fish, 34 inches by 24 inches. We also landed a dozen nice channel cats up to 9lbs. Good fishing.
