Hello,
I have noticed that the stream running alongside Randolph road in Montgomery County (Rock Creek?) looks quite ideal for trout habitat. I believe it is connected to/starts at Lake Needwood. Does that sound accurate, and do you believe trout are in that section of the stream?
DNR's Respone by Biologist Mark Staley- The upper portions of Rock Creek (upstream of the lake) used to have a small population of brown trout. Now, I believe that there are few if any trout in Rock Creek. The physical habitat is good in portions of the stream however the most important factor for trout is water temperature. Water temperatures get too warm (above 68 F) in the summer in Rock Creek for trout survival. The warm waters are due to imprevious surfaces (roads, buildings, and parking lots) accelerating runoff of hot stormwater to the streams which warms the water temperature beyond 68 F.
