Blue Catfish Abound

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Tidal Potomac River

Saturday, August 22nd catfish report. We launched at 0600 spent 2 hrs catching bait. Set up in 30 feet on the Maryland side of the main river channel in the vicinity of Mattawoman. Our first 4 baits were in the water for 5 minutes and we had a double hooked up. The 1st fish we netted, it was over 50lbs and at the same time I grabbed mine by hand, around 40lbs. For the next 3 hrs we landed around 12 fish, the smallest was 24lbs but most were around 30-35lbs. My buddy, Bob, pictured with the big one said this was like catching Potomac tunas. Cant wait to get back out. Notice the size of this cats mouth. They have no problem eating a piece of bait around the size of a grilled cheese sandwich! Another awesome day on the Potomac.
